10 More Days!

I booked this cruise last July and it seemed like it would never arrive but in only 10 days Al and I will be getting on a plane for London!   We will arrive early morning at Gatwick Airport on Saturday, August 21st with a whole day to explore the city -- beginning with Kew Gardens.   Al is Director of an Arboretum so for many years we have visited gardens wherever we travel.  Having the opportunity to spend time at Kew Gardens is sure to be a highlight of our trip.  The rest of the day will be spent exploring the city until we crash!

Our hotel for Saturday night is the Rubens at the Palace (near Buckingham Palace).  Sunday morning we join a new group of friends from "Cruise Critic" to drive to Southampton.  There we will board the Crown Princess for 12 glorious days, visiting ports in the British Isles:  St. Peter Port, Great Britain; Cobh, Ireland; Dublin, Ireland; Liverpool, England; Belfast, Ireland; Greenock (Glasgow), Great Britain; Invergordon, Scotland; South Queensferry (Edinburgh), Scotland; Le Havre (Paris/Normandy), France.

Another highlight of our trip will be attending the Diamond Jubilee Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo on its closing date for 2010.  There will be performers from 4 continents to include pipers, gymnasts, dancers, and an amazing motorcycle display team.  The Citadel Band from Charleston, South Carolina will present an inspiring musical display during the performance.  Looking forward to being there!

Our 18th wedding anniversary is September 4th so following the cruise we will spend 2 nights in London before the trip back home on Sunday, September 5th.  To celebrate our anniversary we have tickets to "We Will Rock You" at the Dominion Theatre,  a performance based on the music of Queen -- our kind of music!

It is getting time to get serious about packing.  Hoping for good weather but preparing for the rain that is inevitable in the British Isles :-)  Won't dampen our spirits one bit because we'll be making new friends and memories!
